The sizes, materials and formats of the works in this series went completely out of bounds, there are a wide range of sizes, and materials of these exciting, gritty, mixed media portraiture, in Mr.Brian Design’s signature style of hard lined drawings and collage fill-ins. There are large scale paintings, small collage portraits, plywood assemblages, and a large format screen-printed T-shirt exclusive to this exhibition.

This pop-up exhibition at a local coffee roaster of Mr.Brian’s home in Kagoshima CIty consists of postcard (hagaki-size) mixed media portraits; materials include paper, pencil, paint, markers, found paper, glue, gesso, and more. The styling is somewhat cute and fairly simple. Most of the characters are completely imaginative and not based on specific individuals. Influences and elements come from pop culture, street fashion, cycling, and people in everyday life and piggybacks his recent solo exhibition at the prestigious, Good Neighbors gallery.

This pop-up exhibition in was Mr.Brian Design’s first public art exhibition in Japan. This event celebrated his first strictly tactile, hand-drawn series that contains found paper collage elements, including; vintage toy catalogs, shopping bags, take-out menus, event flyers, ticket stubs and more. This bold step into mixed media had a huge impact on the future and current trajectory of the artist’s career as he has developed this style over the next seven years. This event also featured a live drawing and collage element in the space.
